Things You WIll Never See in DC: Over-sized metallic shark necklaces

So I have said this many times and I will say it again.  Men in DC are clueless about women's fashion---ok, or my idea of how I think a woman should dress.  If I go out and literally wear what I WANT to wear, I know that I can expect that the only men who will talk to me that night, will make some comment about my accessory du noir.  And mind you, the stuff I wear is not kesha-esque.  There is no giant baby pacifier covered in glitter around my neck, and no I do not go all Gaga and craft a necklace made out of cow tendons or something crazy-now I would discuss that.  No, but if my Chanel necklace that I rarely wear because it is too girly for my taste has PEARLS on it and still gets men to reach their hands, touch my necklace and go --woah, that is QUITE the necklace, or make some reference to Mr. T, let's just discuss what reactions I would get if I wear this over-sized, metallic shark tooth from the Givenchy s/s 2012 collection out and about in DC.  Well, whatever, I think it is amazing.

The Look: My idea of Professional

Can we hold up for just a bit?  I thought I was making progress by dressing a little bit more weather and occasion appropriate.  Trust me.  It has taken forever for me to get to this place.  I hate layering, I hate chunky anything and this has resulted in me always being cold.  So, my love of Acne and Stella knits was greatly appreciated by myself and I thought, "geez, Winter, you are finally growing up".  Although I am currently obsessed with getting F/W big, bulky and chunky knits that will attempt to keep me warm as the temps drop, the Burberry Prorsum 2012 S/S collection has me reconsidering what look will carry me into winter.  I. Am. Obsessed.  The hats, oh the hats...for sure no one in DC will understand them.  I can imagine that I will be standing on the street corner waiting to cross the street on my way to work, while I can feel the eyes of the woman in a Talbots suit with sneakers going up and down my back.  For me, these looks epitomize how I think a woman should do professional.  Tailored colored trenches, with a quirky but still 'tame' hat to set you apart.  I guarantee few will agree with me here, but that's ok ---I am now turning my focus away from the chunky knits to getting my hands on one.

Things You WIll Never See in DC: Amazing, uncontrollable coolness

These pictures come to us from Vogue Paris' Fashion Night Out.  Yeah, Yeah, DC had it's version and even NYC did it up..But seriously people, is there anyone cooler than  Ms. Alt, and Natasha Poly, Isabeli Fontana and the always fab Anja Rubik? Wearing Givenchy, Pucci and Balmain, they get it right from the outfits to the hair to the makeup.  amazing  French Vogue is to die for. I died. literally. bye

Things You WIll Never See in DC: Amazing Sample Sales

Sample Sales.  Forget men and the rush that comes with a first date with a cute guy, sample sales are where it's at.  Literally the thought of digging through a bin and finding a treasure that I lusted after for months and months being at an affordable price makes my heart pitter patter in a way no man to this date has.  So after hearing that the Stella McCartney Friends and Family Sale is going on right now (le sigh) in......NYC, my heart dropped with disappointment in the same way as a girl's heart would drop when she realizes that cute guy with boyfriend potential is a complete douchebag.  Ironically and tragically, both situations have seemed to occur more often than not since I have moved to DC.  Last year, I was lucky enough to purchase this Lanvin X Acne military dress that was originally priced close to $900, for....are you ready? .......$20.   Ah yes.   Last week I missed the Alexander Wang Sample Sale where the zipper open toed booties I have lusted after could have been purchased for under $200 and today, chunky Stella knits which have my name written all over them, are disappearing into the hands of the chosen ones (aka New Yorkers).

Come on DC, Come on designers!  Bring your sample sales to the unfortunate ones with money to spend due to cheaper housing and living expenses!

Personal: Popsicle

Somedays I just feel like throwing the black away and looking like a surfer beach girl who has to go to work.  Today was that day.
